Today, downtown San Francisco is home to over 70 POPOS, and traditional ideas of urban open space have broadened to include small-scale plazas, parks, gardens, sun terraces, and atriums that serve the public under private ownership. In 1985, San Francisco implemented a Downtown Plan that required new developments to create quality, publicly-accessible open space at a ratio of 1 square foot of open space to 50 square feet of occupied office space.

Salesforce Park is conceived as a compact, accessible and experientially intense botanical garden in the middle of the densest and hardest part of the city providing multifunctional green space for respite, activity and education. PWP conceived of the park as an integral part of the building and the neighborhood from the start, with a focus on the incredible array of plants that are particularly suited to grow in San Francisco. He became a California Certified Nurseryperson in 1996 and has brought his passion for plants to his work at PWP. Adam led the design of Salesforce Transit Center Park since the initial design competition in 2007 through its opening. Adam Greenspan is a directing partner at PWP Landscape Architecture and has been the lead designer on a wide range of projects including public parks, campuses, mixed use developments, design competitions and private estates.
